Jane Gyer

Jane Gyer was born in San Francisco and reared in Los Angeles. Much of her time as a young person was spent in Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada mountains, where she developed a profound love for nature that found expression in her art. For more than 30 years, Gyer resided in the mountains close to Yosemite. She visited scenic places in the United States and abroad in search of inspiration.

Simplicity, essential mood and a fine sense of design are underlying qualities of the artist's work. "I strive to capture an instant in nature, then exploring it with line and shape; pushing and pulling with color and values; eliminating and simplifying. Whether my statement is representational or abstract is not important to me. I am only concerned with developing my thoughts into a unified work of art."

Jane left us in 2004. She is much missed by her followers, students and friends.
