Mark Oberlin

Mark Oberlin masterfully works oil on canvas by first applying dabs of color in an impressionist style. Then through diligent blending and polishing the subject emerges smooth and sculpted.

"In the paintings of the flowers and fruit, the viewer is brought into the sensual world of scent and taste. The fruits are voluptuous and ripe, giving references to the human figure. The flowers are unpicked and free in their own environment. They sway softly in the sky. The colors are saturated taking the familiar one step from reality into a slightly different, yet soothing world."

Oberlin has lived his life as an artist. After graduating with a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1989, he moved to San Francisco. Oberlin relocated to Los Angeles in 2007. M.J. HIGGINS is proud to present Oberlin's first solo show in Los Angeles.
