Martin J Waterman is a fine art and commercial photographer living in Pasadena California. For the last three years he has been working almost exclusively in the Southern California Desert. "I have always been fascinated by decay and I don't know that I could say exactly why except that I find it compellingly beautiful. Beautiful in that decay is unpredictable and random. Beautiful in that it doesn't seem to follow any rules, and that challenges our attempts to establish and maintain artificial order. Beautiful in that decay follows no recognizable path except the path of random action. In seeking to somehow capture the beauty of decay I hope to challenge our conventional conceptions of what is beauty; to look around and beyond our carefully constructed blinders, to set aside our preconceived notions, and open our eyes to something that we would normally reject without ever really looking at, without ever really seeing."
