"What the human eye sees in low light has always fascinated me. We do not see the world objectively, but subjectively, as a visual collage of past experiences, desires, and subconscious connections

"In my photographic explorations I use long time exposures to record layers of ever-changing reality onto a single frame. In doing so I create an imprint of a world that is always in a state of becoming, never fixed or final. Caught in the transition from one moment to the next, this world is recorded as a patchwork of shapes, which linger at the threshold of abstraction and figuration, revealing images that are like snapshots of a dream, for which the viewer's mind, with all its personal memories, associations and experiences provides the narrative."

Peter Novak, born in Austria and a US resident since 1980, holds a degree in optical engineering, studied Architecture and received a BFA in Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute.
