Luis Sanchez is an extraordinary talent. Luis' work combines the past, present, and the future. Through the ancient process of fresco he recreates from memories the degraded stucco walls of Mexico City where he was born and raised. His two-dimensional works are often noted for his masterful use of trompe l'oeil, leaving viewers with the impression that he has used photography, college, or other techniques when he has only used the brush.

Born in 1968, Luis was born into a family that included artisans, dancers, and bull fighters. Luis' talents were evident early on and at age seven his parents enrolled him in Mexico's prestigious Museo De Bellas Artes. Luis and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 1979. After graduating from high school in 1987, Luis attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington where he studied fine art.

March 1997, ARTSPEAK New York stated that Luis paints in the "unflinching tradition of Frida Kahlo." In spite of a lifetime of chronic kidney disease Luis' passion for life and art continues to inspire. Luis has donated many works and raised thousands of dollars for Rise and Shine Foundation (children with Aids), DIFFA, design industries fighting for Aids, Bellevue Art Museum Auctions and donated to local High School art programs. He has also worked as a camp counselor and facilitator for Power of Hope, an organization working with troubled teens.

Please join us Sunday, June 8th from 6-10pm for a chance to see Luis work, meet Luis and join in a fun filled benefit to help defray recent medical costs.
